Steering Wheel Joint Replacement

When turning the steering wheel, either left or right, I could hear a clicking sound and feel some kind of gap, i.e. when a gear misses a tooth. After a visit at the mechanic, he pointed me that the steering wheel joint (Item #4) bush was out, causing the "play" and the weird sounds.

05 TORX BOLT M8X33 3     32301094718 $0.56

Installation:

1. Remove the 2 torx bolts (Item #5).

2. Have another person get inside the car

3. Remove the cover under the steering wheel

4. Let the person inside the car pull the steering shaft towards him.

5. Then the joint can be removed.

6. Install the new joint paying attention not to turn the steering wheel left or right so that you lose the centre. (I forgot that and in order to move straight, I had to have my steering wheel turned around 10 degrees clockwise). If you miss the centre, you can go to a shop and have them align the wheels with the steering wheel.

7. Bolt the 2 torx screws and use Loctite as well.

Time: 2 Hours (By my mechanic, including visit to shop to straighten the steering wheel)
