"Wobbly" M3 Mirror Fix

After 2 years of use, I noticed that my genuine M3 mirrors would "wobble" a bit at the point where the fixed baseplate meets the mirror housing. Since the mirror housing was shaking while I was driving, it quickly became annoying so a fix was mandatory. Thankfully, no serious dismantling is required to do this fix. In fact, just 2 bolts and a cover to be removed.

Here's the issue on video:

Remove the cabin mirror cover:

Grab the top section and pull towards you until it unclips, then lift upwards to completely remove.

See the bottom hole how it is shaped, that's why you need to pull upwards when the top part unclips. Now remove the 2x 10mm bolts while holding the mirror in place.

The wiring is just enough to let you work behind the mirror plate. Pull the rubber sealing grommet outside. Carefully remove the foamy gasket from the base plate to reveal 2x T20 screws. These were loose in my case. I took a ratchet and tightened them enough to stop the housing from moving around on its own. As these things are fragile, careful not to overtighten.

Once tight, replace the foamy gasket, grab the rubber grommet from the inside and pull it until it goes back in to place. <- Important step else water might enter the door card and you don't want this to happen! Re-install the 2x10mm bolts and finally re-insert the black cover. The plastic cover first goes in the bottom hole, then you push it downwards and then you push the top section to clip in place. It's pretty intuitive.

Done! Solid mirror housings again!
